Multiply weight/metre by total length to get tonnage (e.g. 1,000 m of 12 mm ≈ 0.888 t). Divide your required tonnage by weight/metre to get length. Nominal weights are based on steel density of 7,850 kg/m³ and apply to B500B, Gr60 and BS 4449 alike — grade affects strength, not weight.
