The country produces no steel of its own. Iceland’s steel imports are dominated by a small group of European origins — Germany, Norway, Lithuania, Denmark and the Netherlands together account for roughly 71% of the total, with the balance from Sweden, the UK, China and others. Nearly all of it enters through Sundahöfn, the cargo complex of the Port of Reykjavík operated by Faxaflóahafnir, where Iceland’s two largest carriers run container terminals with warehousing and onward distribution.
