B500C Reinforcing Steel: Properties, Chemistry & Where It’s Used

Buyers ask us about B500C reinforcing steel every week, and the same questions come up: which grade, what certificate, how much per tonne, and how it ships. This guide answers all of them, so you can specify and order B500C reinforcing steel with confidence.

What B500C is

B500B (DIN 488/EN 10080) is the European default — 500 N/mm² yield, ductility class B, fully weldable. B500C adds high ductility (Agt ≥7.5%) for seismic work; Grade 60 (ASTM A615) is the 420 MPa class common in the Gulf and Americas.

B500C sits in that landscape as a high-ductility seismic grade.

Properties that matter

Specify by yield strength, ductility class (elongation Agt and yield ratio), weldability (controlled carbon equivalent) and bar size. Every shipment ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate tied to the heat number, recording chemistry, tensile results and bend/rebend tests — your full traceability chain.

Choosing it for a project

Match the grade to the design code and, for seismic detailing, to the required ductility class. Dual-certified material bridges spec conflicts between EN and ASTM.

FAQ

Is B500C weldable?

Generally yes when the carbon equivalent is controlled — confirm with the mill data on the 3.1 certificate.

Where is B500C used?

European and international projects on the 500-class.

Can you dual-certify it?

Often yes (EN 10080 + ASTM A615) — send your spec.
