Rebar Peru: German-Quality Reinforcing Steel for a Growing Market
Peru is one of South America’s largest construction markets, driven by mining infrastructure, Lima urban development, public road and bridge programmes, and commercial real estate. The country’s primary reinforcing steel standard is NTP 341.031 (Norma Técnica Peruana), which closely follows ASTM A615 Grade 60 requirements for deformed carbon-steel bars. Both specify minimum yield strength, deformed surface geometry, and ductility requirements that are broadly comparable to the European B500B grade.
German-origin B500B to EN 10080 / DIN 488 is not formally certified under NTP 341 or ASTM A615, and we do not claim those designations. However, the mechanical performance of B500B — 500 MPa minimum yield, k-ratio ≥ 1.08, Agt ≥ 5.0%, deformed ribbed profile — places it in the same engineering tier as ASTM A615 Grade 60 / NTP 341 Gr60. For international projects in Peru specifying EN 10080 or Eurocode 2, German rebar is directly applicable. For contracts governed by NTP 341 or ASTM A615, the project engineer must confirm equivalence — our full EN 10204 3.1 documentation package supports that process.
Products Available for Export to Peru

- B500A wire coils — 6–16 mm, hot- or cold-rolled, for automated stirrup bending and mesh production
- Reinforcing mesh panels — Q/R types per DIN 488-4, bespoke dimensions available
- Mechanical couplers — parallel-thread, 12–40 mm diameter, for high-rise and bridge column applications
- Cut-and-bend rebar — processed to DIN 488 or BS 8666 shape codes, tagged and bundled for direct placement
B500B Weight and Cross-Section Reference
| Diameter (mm) | Weight (kg/m) | Cross-Section (mm²) |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | 0.395 | 50.3 |
| 10 | 0.617 | 78.5 |
| 12 | 0.888 | 113 |
| 16 | 1.58 | 201 |
| 20 | 2.47 | 314 |
| 25 | 3.85 | 491 |
| 32 | 6.31 | 804 |
| 40 | 9.86 | 1257 |
Formula: kg/m = d²(mm) × 0.00617. Cross-section = π/4 × d².
Port of Callao & Logistics to Peru
Peru’s primary port gateway is Callao, one of South America’s busiest container terminals, located immediately west of Lima.
Port of Callao
The Port of Callao (APM Terminals Callao, DP World Callao) handles the vast majority of Peru’s container trade. European-origin cargo routes via Atlantic transshipment hubs (e.g. Cartagena or Panama) or direct Pacific services before arriving at Callao. Rebar bundles (~2 t each) load efficiently into 20 ft or 40 ft containers.
Export Documentation
Every shipment includes: EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate, Certificate of Origin (Germany/EU), commercial invoice, packing list with heat-number bundle references, bill of lading, and HS code documentation (7214 for deformed bars, 7213 for coils) for Peruvian customs (SUNAT).
Seaworthy Packing
Steel-strapped bundles with end caps and protective wrapping suited for extended ocean transit to South America. Each bundle marked with heat number, grade, diameter, and standard — traceable to the EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate.
Standards Comparability: EN 10080 B500B vs NTP 341 / ASTM A615 Grade 60
| Property | B500B (EN 10080 / DIN 488) | NTP 341 / ASTM A615 Gr60 |
|---|---|---|
| Min. Yield Strength | 500 MPa | 414 MPa (60 ksi) minimum; typical mill output higher |
| Min. Tensile Strength | 540 MPa (k ≥ 1.08) | 620 MPa (90 ksi) |
| Ductility | Agt ≥ 5.0 % | Elongation per gauge length per ASTM |
| Surface Profile | Deformed (ribbed) | Deformed |
| Weldability | DIN EN ISO 17660 (qualified) | Dependent on carbon equivalent |
| Test Certificate | EN 10204 3.1 MTC | CMTR (Certified Mill Test Report) |
