What tie wire does
Every rebar cage is held in position by tie wire — soft annealed steel wire twisted at bar intersections so the mat stays put during the pour. It’s a low-cost item, but the wrong wire (too hard, wrong gauge) slows fixing and snaps. Typical: 1.2–1.6 mm soft annealed, black or galvanized, in 1–25 kg coils.
Types and coatings
Black annealed is the standard, cheapest tie wire. Galvanized resists rust for exposed or long-store work. PVC-coated is used where appearance or extra corrosion life matters. For power tools, wire comes in rebar-tier spools that speed fixing dramatically on big cages.
