Calculating Rebar Tonnage from a Bar Bending Schedule

A Bar Bending Schedule lists every bar’s shape, size and count. Converting it to tonnage is simple once you know the mass-per-metre figures.

The core formula

Weight (kg) = Total length (m) × Nominal mass per metre (kg/m). Mass per metre depends only on bar diameter.

Worked example

1. Sum cut length × quantity for each bar mark, grouped by diameter.
2. Ø16 totals 4,200 m → 4,200 × 1.578 = 6,628 kg.
3. Repeat per diameter, then add for the project total.
4. Add a 3–5% allowance for laps, wastage and rolling tolerance.
