Rebar Supply for Turkey’s Construction and Infrastructure Market

Turkey is one of Europe’s largest construction markets, sustained by urban renewal programmes, major infrastructure projects (highways, bridges, tunnels, airport expansions), and a substantial residential building sector. While Turkey has a significant domestic steel industry, international project owners and contractors sourcing premium-quality, fully documented reinforcing steel for critical structures increasingly look to German-standard supply chains for the traceability and compliance assurance they provide.

Steel Rebar Germany supplies B500B hot-rolled deformed bars to EN 10080 and DIN 488, with a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa, ductility class B (k ≥ 1.08, Agt ≥ 5.0%), available in diameters 8–40 mm in standard 12-metre lengths or custom lengths up to 18 m.

Turkey’s national reinforcing steel standard is TS 708. The high-ductility grade within TS 708 — B500C — specifies a minimum yield of 500 MPa, tensile/yield ratio k ≥ 1.15 (upper bound k < 1.35), and Agt ≥ 7.5%, placing it in seismic ductility class C. EN 10080 B500B is technically comparable to TS 708 B500C in yield strength but has lower ductility requirements (k ≥ 1.08, Agt ≥ 5.0%). We do not claim formal TS 708 approval. Project engineers must evaluate suitability against Turkish building code requirements, particularly for seismic zones where B500C ductility class may be mandatory.

Shipping to Mersin & Istanbul (Ambarli) — Logistics Overview

Efficient European short-sea and feeder container routes to Turkey’s main cargo ports.

🚢

Mersin (South Turkey)

Turkey’s largest container port and gateway for central and southern Anatolia. Well-connected to European container services via feeder and direct routes. Suitable for rebar supply to construction projects in Adana, Gaziantep, and surrounding regions.

Istanbul — Ambarli

Ambarli terminals serve Istanbul and the Marmara region — Turkey’s largest construction market. Short-sea container services from Hamburg and Bremerhaven operate frequently, with transit times typically 8–14 days via the Baltic/North Sea feeder network.

Standards Comparison: EN 10080 B500B vs. TS 708 B500C

Turkey’s seismic code (TBEC 2018) requires ductility class C (B500C under TS 708) for most structural reinforced concrete elements in seismic zones 1 and 2. The comparison below is for technical reference only.

PropertyEN 10080 B500B (our supply)TS 708 B500C (reference)

Total elongation at max. force (Agt)≥ 5.0 %≥ 7.5 %

SurfaceRibbed / deformedRibbed / deformed
Important: EN 10080 B500B is ductility class B, while TS 708 B500C is class C (seismic). For structural applications in Turkish seismic zones where B500C is mandated by the building code or project specification, project engineers must confirm whether B500B is an acceptable alternative. We do not claim TS 708 formal approval.

B500C Grade — Seismic Ductility Option

Where TS 708 B500C ductility class C is specifically required, we can supply B500C bars to EN 10080 — the European equivalent of seismic-grade rebar (k ≥ 1.15, < 1.35; Agt ≥ 7.5%). The European B500C grade meets or exceeds the ductility requirements of TS 708 B500C in the key parameters. Contact us to discuss B500C supply for seismic-zone projects in Turkey. See our standards and certification page for grade detail.

For export logistics information, see our export delivery guide. The B500B product page covers the standard grade in full, and the export hub lists all destination markets.

Frequently Asked Questions — Rebar Export to Turkey

Is EN 10080 B500B acceptable for seismic-zone construction in Turkey?
Turkey’s seismic building code (TBEC 2018) generally mandates ductility class C (B500C / S500) for reinforced concrete structures in high seismic zones. EN 10080 B500B is ductility class B, which may not satisfy the B500C requirement in seismic zones. We recommend consulting the structural engineer and Turkish building authority. If class C ductility is required, we can supply EN 10080 B500C instead.
Which Turkish ports do you ship rebar to?
We primarily ship to Mersin for central and southern Turkey, and to Istanbul (Ambarli terminals) for the Marmara and northwest region. Other Turkish ports (Izmir/Alsancak, Iskenderun) can be served depending on project location and vessel routing.
What documentation do you provide for Turkish customs?
We supply EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate, Certificate of Origin (Germany), commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading. For trade under the EU-Turkey Customs Union, a EUR.1 movement certificate is available to facilitate preferential tariff treatment on qualifying steel products.
Can you supply cut-and-bend rebar for Turkish projects?
Yes. We supply cut-and-bend rebar to DIN 488 shape codes, which can be matched to Turkish bar-bending schedule requirements. Fabricated elements are bundled and labelled per bar mark. For seismic-grade cut-and-bend work, B500C supply can be discussed.
Can you supply rebar couplers for Turkish high-rise or infrastructure projects?
Yes. Mechanical rebar couplers (parallel-thread, 12–40 mm) are available and are widely used in high-rise and bridge construction as an alternative to lap splices, particularly where congested reinforcement zones make lapping impractical. Contact us for a combined bar and coupler supply quotation.
