What sheet piles do
Steel sheet piles are interlocking sections driven into the ground to form a continuous wall — for quays, cofferdams, basements, flood defences and retaining structures. Z-profiles and U-profiles give high bending strength per tonne; the interlocks make the wall water-resisting.
Cantilever vs anchored walls
Short walls act as cantilevers, fixed by embedment. Taller walls need anchoring — a line of tie rods connecting the wall to deadman anchors or anchor walls, transferring the earth/water pressure back into stable ground. The tie rods (M36–M160, upset-forged) and their walings, turnbuckles and plates are as critical as the piles themselves.
Specifying the system
Design follows EN 1993-5; section choice balances required section modulus, drivability and corrosion allowance (or coating) for the design life. We supply the anchorage steel — high-capacity tie rods, turnbuckles and bearing hardware — certified to EN 10204 3.1 for marine and civil sheet-pile works.
