Rebar for Filigree Slabs
Lattice-girder mesh for semi-precast floors — B500B bar, mesh, lattice girders and couplers to DIN 488 / EN 10080, designed to Eurocode 2.
What Is a Filigree Slab and Why Does the Reinforcement Matter?
A filigree slab (German: Filigrandecke) is a semi-precast composite floor element. A thin precast concrete shell — typically 50–80 mm thick — incorporates a bottom mesh layer and a series of lattice girders (Gitterträger) projecting upward. The shell acts as permanent formwork; once positioned on falsework, in-situ concrete is poured over to reach the design slab thickness, usually 160–260 mm total.
The lattice girders perform two functions: they stiffen the thin precast shell during transport and erection, and they provide the shear connection between the precast layer and the in-situ topping once composite action is achieved. This means the geometry, weld quality and steel grade of the lattice girder directly affect the structural performance of the finished slab under Eurocode 2.
Products Supplied for Filigree Slab Production
- Lattice girders (Gitterträger) — upper chord, lower chord and diagonal web bars in B500A / B500B, welded to DIN EN ISO 17660. Standard panel heights 60–200 mm, custom lengths available.
- Bottom mesh panels — B500A welded mesh to DIN 488-4, standard panel size 6.0 × 2.3 m (Q and R types), cut to bespoke sizes.
- B500B straight bars — for additional edge reinforcement, openings and connection zones, 8–25 mm diameter.
- Rebar couplers — where continuous reinforcement is required across slab joints (e.g. at column heads), parallel-thread couplers dia 12–25 mm.
Lattice Girder Geometry & Selection Guide
Match girder height to your precast shell thickness and design slab depth.
| Girder height (mm) | Typical slab thickness (mm) | Upper/lower chord dia (mm) | Web diagonal dia (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 | 140–160 | 8 / 6 | 5 |
| 80 | 160–180 | 10 / 8 | 6 |
| 100 | 180–200 | 10 / 8 | 6 |
| 120 | 200–220 | 12 / 10 | 6 |
| 150 | 220–250 | 14 / 10 | 7 |
| 200 | 260–300 | 16 / 12 | 8 |
Dimensions are indicative. Your structural engineer specifies girder geometry based on Eurocode 2 shear and deflection calculations for each project.
