What is coil rebar?
Coil rebar is reinforcing bar wound into a continuous coil, typically in diameters from 6 to 16 mm, produced hot- or cold-rolled. It is designed to be fed into automated cut-and-bend, stirrup-bending and mesh-welding machines, which straighten, cut and shape the bar to programmed dimensions on demand. Because the machine cuts each piece to exact length, coil generates very little offcut waste.
What is straight bar?
Straight bar is reinforcing steel supplied in fixed stock lengths — commonly 6 to 18 m, with 12 m the typical default. It is the workhorse form for general construction, available across the full diameter range from 8 to 40 mm. Straight bar is cut and bent manually or with simple shears and benders on site or in a yard, and is the practical choice for larger diameters that do not coil.

When to choose coil rebar
Choose coil if you run automated machinery and produce large volumes of stirrups, links or mesh in smaller diameters. The benefits are continuous feeding without bar-to-bar pauses, minimal offcut waste, faster throughput and consistent shapes. Choose straight bar for larger diameters (20 mm and above), for projects without automated coil processing, and where simple manual cutting on site is the norm. Straight bar covers the full diameter range and is straightforward to handle with standard equipment. For mixed projects, many buyers order coil for the small-diameter stirrup and mesh work and straight bar for the heavy main reinforcement.
