10mm Rebar Coil: Technical Specification

The 10 mm reinforcing steel coil sits at the mid-range of the coil product family — heavier than the 8 mm wire used in mesh production, yet still compact enough for continuous coil processing on CNC stirrup benders. At 0.617 kg per linear metre and a cross-sectional area of 78.5 mm², it delivers meaningful structural contribution as stirrups in beams and columns, as well as secondary reinforcement in walls and slabs.

Steel Rebar Germany supplies 10 mm coil to DIN 488 and EN 10080 in grades B500A (normal ductility, 500 MPa yield, k ≥ 1.05, Agt ≥ 2.5%) and B500B (high ductility, k ≥ 1.08, Agt ≥ 5.0%). Both grades carry the German legacy designation BSt 500. The 10 mm diameter is frequently specified in European and export-market structural drawings where 8 mm stirrups are undersized and 12 mm is unnecessarily heavy.

10 mm Coil vs Straight Bar: When to Specify Coil

For 10 mm diameter, the choice between coil and straight bar depends on production method. Coil is ideal when the bar will be processed through automated stirrup bending machines or fed into a straightening-and-cutting line on site. It eliminates the offcut waste generated by fixed-length bars and enables continuous high-speed processing. Straight bar at 6–12 m lengths may be preferred for manual bending operations or where coil-straightening equipment is unavailable.

Grade Selection for 10 mm Coil

B500A: Cold-rolled, normal ductility (Agt ≥ 2.5%). Suited for applications not requiring high ductility class — mesh cross-bars, light stirrups, distribution reinforcement. Tight dimensional tolerances from the cold-rolling process.

B500B: Hot-rolled, high ductility (Agt ≥ 5.0%, k ≥ 1.08). Required when the structural design specifies ductility class B under Eurocode 2 or equivalent national standard. The B500B hot-rolled surface provides enhanced bond with concrete and is the standard choice for load-bearing stirrup applications in seismically active regions.

Applications of 10 mm Rebar Coil

Structural and manufacturing uses where 10 mm coil is commonly specified.

🏗️

Beam & Column Stirrups

10 mm is a common stirrup diameter in medium-span beams and columns — coil format enables fast CNC production of closed rectangular and spiral stirrup forms.

🧱

Slab Reinforcement

Used as main or distribution reinforcement in reinforced concrete slabs, flat plates, and raft foundations where higher cross-section than 8 mm is needed.

Precast Production

Precast manufacturers use 10 mm coil as stirrup reinforcement in precast beams, columns, and wall panels — high throughput with coil-fed bending machines.

Bridge & Infrastructure

Shear reinforcement in bridge decks, retaining walls, and tunnel linings frequently specifies 10 mm stirrups at defined spacing per EC2 design.

Coil Weight and Logistics for 10 mm

A standard 2-tonne coil of 10 mm rebar contains approximately 3,241 linear metres, calculated from the 0.617 kg/m unit weight. This provides a substantial processing run before reel change on automated equipment. For large-volume export orders, multiple coils are bundled into seaworthy units for container loading.

We confirm exact coil weights, bundle configuration, and packing dimensions at quotation stage. Consignments are supplied with:

  • EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate (chemical + mechanical test results, heat traceability)
  • Certificate of Origin for customs and LC compliance
  • CE Marking / Declaration of Performance where applicable
  • Full packing list with net and gross weights

Frequently Asked Questions — 10 mm Rebar Coil

What is the weight per metre and cross-section of 10 mm rebar coil?
10 mm reinforcing steel coil weighs 0.617 kg/m (d² × 0.00617 = 100 × 0.00617). Cross-sectional area is 78.5 mm². A 2-tonne coil yields approximately 3,241 linear metres.
What grades are available for 10 mm rebar coil?
We supply 10 mm coil in B500A (cold-rolled, normal ductility, Agt ≥ 2.5%) and B500B (hot-rolled, high ductility, Agt ≥ 5.0%). Both comply with DIN 488 and EN 10080 at 500 MPa minimum yield strength.
Is 10 mm coil suitable for automated stirrup bending machines?
Yes. 10 mm coil is one of the most common feedstock diameters for CNC stirrup benders. The coil format eliminates bar-end offcuts and allows continuous high-speed forming of closed stirrups, spiral shapes, and U-bars. Both cold-rolled B500A and hot-rolled B500B are available in coil format for this purpose.
What documents are supplied with a 10 mm coil order?
Every shipment includes an EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate (with chemical composition, mechanical properties, and heat number), Certificate of Origin, CE Marking / Declaration of Performance where required, and a complete packing list. Incoterms (EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF) are confirmed at quotation stage.
How does 10 mm coil differ from 10 mm straight bar?
Both formats are 10 mm diameter B500A/B500B compliant with DIN 488. Coil format provides continuous wire for automated processing; straight bar (6–18 m) is used where manual bending or fixed-length supply is preferred. Coil eliminates bar-end waste in stirrup and mesh production. See our coil vs straight bar guide for a detailed comparison.
