R257 Reinforcing Steel Mesh — 7 mm Wire, 2.57 cm²/m
R257 mesh is a structural (R-type) welded fabric with 7 mm longitudinal wires at 150 mm pitch, delivering 2.57 cm²/m cross-sectional area. Supplied in standard sheets (~6.0 × 2.3 m) to DIN 488-4 and EN 10080 for international B2B export.
R257 Mesh: Technical Specification
R257 welded fabric is a structural R-type mesh produced to DIN 488-4 and EN 10080. The “R” classification indicates that reinforcement runs primarily in one direction — the longitudinal wires carry design loads, while transverse wires maintain spacing and geometry during concrete placement and curing.
With a 7 mm longitudinal wire diameter at 150 mm pitch, R257 provides 2.57 cm²/m — a moderate reinforcement ratio that sits between the lighter R188 and the widely specified R335. It is particularly suited to ground-bearing slabs with intermediate loading, lightweight suspended elements, and infill panels where the structural engineer has calculated a reinforcement demand in this range under EN 1992-1-1 (Eurocode 2).

Steel Grade & Material Properties
R257 mesh is produced from B500A or B500B reinforcing steel, meeting the ductility and bond requirements of DIN 488 and EN 10080.
500 MPa Yield Strength
Characteristic yield Re,k = 500 MPa minimum. Both B500A and B500B classifications fully satisfy Eurocode 2 design requirements for reinforced concrete.
Normal Ductility (B500A)
B500A grade: k ≥ 1.05 (ratio of tensile to yield strength), Agt ≥ 2.5% (uniform elongation at fracture) — the standard ductility class for welded mesh applications.
Welded Joint Integrity
All welded intersections meet DIN 488-4 shear strength requirements. Welding process per DIN EN ISO 17660, ensuring consistent structural performance in concrete.
Typical Applications for R257 Mesh
R257 occupies a practical mid-range position in the R-series. It is specified when R188 is insufficient but the design does not yet demand the reinforcement ratio of R335. Typical applications include:
- Ground-bearing slabs with moderate live loads — light industrial floors, warehouses, and commercial premises with racking or fork-lift traffic where the design engineer has calculated a steel area requirement around 2.5 cm²/m.
- Residential suspended ground floors — reinforced concrete slab construction over voids or compressible fills.
- Road and pavement sub-base reinforcement — concrete roads and hardstandings subject to light vehicle loads.
- Precast panel reinforcement — cladding and non-structural wall panels where low weight per sheet is a handling advantage.
- Crack-control mesh in composite deck slabs — placed in the tension zone of profiled composite slabs to limit crack widths under service loading.
Where a higher reinforcement area is required in both directions simultaneously, Q-type mesh (square configuration) may be more appropriate. Discuss your project requirements with our team.
