Using the standard reinforcing steel weight formula (kg/m = d² × 0.00617), a single 10 mm wire weighs 0.617 kg/m. Q524 thus has an approximate sheet weight of 9.27 kg/m² — the heaviest in the standard 150 mm pitch Q-family. The 10 mm wire cross-section (78.5 mm² per wire) is directly readable from standard reinforcing steel section tables and integrates naturally into Eurocode 2 design calculations.

B500B (k ≥ 1.08, Agt ≥ 5.0%) is the preferred grade for structural applications requiring Eurocode 2 ductility class B; B500A (k ≥ 1.05, Agt ≥ 2.5%) is adequate where normal ductility suffices.

What is the difference between Q524 and Q636, and when should I choose Q524?
Q524 uses 10 mm wires at 150 mm pitch (As = 5.24 cm²/m); Q636 uses 9 mm wires at 100 mm pitch (As = 6.36 cm²/m). Q524 is lighter per m² (9.27 vs ~11.25 kg/m²) and has a wider pitch, which can simplify concrete workability and aggregate compaction in heavily reinforced zones. Choose Q524 when the design requires more than Q424 but the structural engineer’s As requirement does not justify moving to the 100 mm pitch of Q636. For crack-width control governed by bar spacing limits in EC2 Table 7.2, the closer 100 mm pitch of Q636 may be required — verify with the structural engineer.
Is Q524 available in B500B for seismic applications?
Yes. Q524 B500B (high ductility, k ≥ 1.08, Agt ≥ 5.0%) is available and can be specified in seismic design situations governed by Eurocode 8 (EN 1998) where ductility class B reinforcement is permitted. For DCH structures, check whether grade B500C (1.15 ≤ k < 1.35, Agt ≥ 7.5%) is required by the national annex or the project specification.
How do I calculate the number of Q524 sheets for a project?
Calculate the plan area of mesh required (m²), add 20–30% for overlaps (typically 150–300 mm per edge), then divide by the single sheet area of 13.8 m² (6.0 × 2.3 m). To get tonnage, multiply total m² by 9.27 kg/m² and divide by 1000. Provide us with the net area, overlap allowance, and any cutting requirements when requesting a quote — we will confirm the exact sheet count and freight weight.
Can Q524 be supplied in non-standard sheet sizes?
Yes. Custom sheet dimensions can be cut to your reinforcement schedule, subject to minimum order quantities. Longer sheets (e.g. 7.2 m or 9.0 m) may be available to reduce laps in long-span slabs. Advise your requirements on the quote form and we will confirm feasibility and lead time.
What documentation is required for importing Q524 mesh into non-EU markets?
Requirements vary by destination country. At minimum, most markets require the EN 10204 Type 3.1 Mill Test Certificate and a Certificate of Origin.
